Description
Urban vandalism, characterized by the deliberate destruction or defacement of public or private property, has emerged as a critical issue in Indian cities.Urban vandalism, viewed as simple delinquency, reveals profound socio-cultural processes inside India's swiftly changing urban setting. However prevalent, it is insufficiently examined within the Indian setting, especially regarding socio-cultural dynamics and urban planning viewpoints. This study examines the socio-cultural origins of vandalism, analysing its connection to identity, communal values, and societal changes. Utilising sociological theories, secondary literature, and field studies, it underscores the interaction among urban pressures, cultural manifestations, and societal discontent. Findings indicate that urban vandalism in India is influenced by different practices which include socio, cultural, unawareness of civic responsibility, and poor urban planning amongst others which call for broad-based approach for effective urbanization. Strategies are proposed that seek to resolve urban vandalism by promoting people’s participation and their culture to the cause.
