Description

The Pangkep City Government utilizes the Pangkajene River as a Non-Green Open Space or Public Open Space (POS) through the development of the riverbank in the city center. Despite the potential for sunset views and the presence of Street Vendors, the Pangkajene Riverbank area still faces challenges such as insufficient parking access, unoptimized pedestrian paths and lack of lighting in the park which affects its quality and safety at night. This research provides solutions in the development of POS on the banks of the Pangkajene River with a riverwalk concept that is responsive to individual needs, democratic and meaningful in interaction with the environment. The objectives of this study are 1) to identify the characteristics of POS in the riverbank area; 2) to determine the development priorities; and 3) to formulate directions for POS development in the Pangkajene Riverbank. Types and sources of data are primary and secondary data obtained from observation, interview, literature study and questionnaire data collection techniques. Analysis methods are descriptive quantitative, qualitative, Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and triangulation. The characteristics of the Pangkajene Riverbank area are divided into physical and non-physical. Physical includes accessibility, street furniture, space utilization and building facades. Non-physical involves socio-economic and environmental aspects. Accessibility to the area is quite good, but facilities such as pedestrian paths, parking and bus stops are still lacking. Non-physical variables include social, economic and environmental. The quality of the Pangkajene Riverbank area was analyzed using IPA resulted in five sub-indicators in quadrant I or top priority. The development priorities of the Pangkajene Riverbank area are pedestrians, plazas and parks. In preparing the direction, this area is divided into three segments: north as recreational zone, east as commercial zone and west as relaxation zone. Development will focus on the development of pedestrians, plazas and parks in each segment.
