Description
In the past, the construction of residential areas in China mainly met the living needs of young people. With the acceleration of the aging process in China, the degree of aging-adapted public space in residential areas is low, and the problem of mismatch between public services and real needs is serious. In this paper, we take Jinchan-Nanli in Beijing as an example, adopt the analysis framework of combining qualitative and moderate quantification, take material and non-material elements as perspectives, and evaluate and classify the public space in terms of ageing-adapted spatial environment and diversity of behaviours and activities through the matrix method and expert scoring, so that we can make a comprehensive assessment and classification summary. Comprehensive assessment and classification are conducted to understand the overall characteristics of the ageing of public space in existing residential areas. Typical factors are selected to explore the problem of ageing of public space in existing settlements, so as to improve the public space of Jinchan-Nanli in Beijing, and to provide new ideas for the ageing renovation of other existing settlements. The study shows that the improvement of material elements in existing settlements can promote social activities and attract immaterial elements to settle and gather, and the immaterial elements are reshaping the material elements of existing settlements in their daily interactions. The two elements interact with each other to improve the ageing-ability of public space in established settlements.
