Description
Parks, squares, streets as urban public spaces build the skeleton of the city, which is filled with urban tissue. The importance of the public spaces makes various actors, such as inhabitants, activists, non-governmental organisations, officials and local entrepreneurs interested in the process of creating them. Including the interests and wishes of all of them in that process is a demanding task.
The main goal of the work was to conduct the analysis of participatory processes which were used in the development of urban public spaces. The dependencies of cooperations between various actors and roles of particular groups of stakeholders including mediators and coordinators of the process were analysed as well.
The work is based on the desk research and empirical studies of European and North American cases. The result is the review of models which are strategies of conducting participatory processes which show the input of particular groups of participants. Moreover models are prepared with the author's method of graphical presentation. Moreover, the author illustrated existing models of participation in creating public spaces which are described in the literature. Finally, thanks to comparable forms it is easier to find the differences between them and draw conclusions.
The research showed diversity of the participatory processes and the multiplicity of ways to the common created urban public spaces. Moreover, the results have an application dimension and might help officials or activists to find the right way in creating their favourite parks, squares or streets. Graphical forms of models allow readers to compare them and choose the best fitting one for people responsible for the participation in creating public spaces.
